My teeny, tiny bathroom.
Let’s talk a little about my bathroom. My bathroom is tiny. I mean, teeny, tiny. It’s not as small as the bathroom of an apartment I rented years ago in Brooklyn (that had no sink), but it’s close!
Our home was constructed in 1959, an era when everything was small and made for mid-century living. Not owning a whole heck of a lot was just a part of the times. But now? Well, now we buy a heck of a lot more of the things we don’t need and buy bigger spaces to store the things we don’t need in.
On a personal note, it took me a long time to realize that I was just wasting money on crap stuff that was taking up valuable space in the teeny, tiny spaces in my mid-century home. I’ve spent a lot of time since we moved in purging all the stuff we don’t need. It’s an endless process, but it’s so worth it!
Our first solution.
Our first solution to a small bathroom makeover was a crappy bathroom shelving unit that (I think) we got from Walmart. While not the prettiest unit, it served its purpose (for 7 years!).
This unit not only collected dust, it made cleaning the floor around it a nightmare and “shrunk” the size of our bathroom a great deal.
Needless to say, after 7 years of this thing, it was time for a change.
Little changes, big difference!
A week or so ago, while I was pursuing Zulily to see if there were any deals on stuff for the house, I came across some shelves that got me a little excited. Not only were they the perfect size shelf to hang above the toilet, they had a little towel bar to hang hand towels!
So. Very. Cute!
The final results.
This small bathroom makeover took me less than an hour to complete and was super budget-friendly. All I had to do remove the old rack, throw away everything I no longer used or needed on that rack (which was just about everything), measure, and hang them directly over the toilet. (And, the shelves were super easy to hang.)
I’m not going to lie, this small little change made a HUGE difference in my small bathroom. Check out my after photos below!
Before & After.
I still can’t believe how different our small bathroom looks with such a small change. It only took me seven years to accomplish, but seeing it how it is now is so worth it. My husband even commented on how big and clean the bathroom looks now.
Where to buy.
It looks like the Zulily event for these particular shelves is just about over, but it looks like you can grab something very similar on Amazon for about the same price.
This small bathroom makeover was worth every minute of the hour it took me to complete. If you want to see a little of the process, you can check out the little Tik Tok video I made below.
